ok so the story takes place about 60 years ago in this tiny village somewhere in eastern japan that believed highly in the existence of ghosts, spirits and the likes. as such, rituals were carried out often to, as they believed, banish demons, and perhaps the most common ritualistic practice took the form of burning flowers - most prominently lavender. infamously, an elderly woman who often lead such ceremonies fell oddly sick after a ritual. she died a few days later in the only hospital in the village in room 306 of the third floor.
3 years later, a janitor of the hospital the old lady died in was sweeping the first floor when he heard a quiet hissing of tsss, and the faint fragrance of lavender. paying no mind, he continued to sweep the stairs connecting the first and second floors. the aroma became more conspicuous, the hissing sound louder. tsss tsss. panicked, yet intent on doing his job, the janitor then moved to the third floor of the hospital. undoubtedly, the sound grew louder yet again and the smell of lavender became stronger. he moved down the corridor, each room he passed becoming louder and louder. 301, 302. 303. 304… 305. he reached the end of the corridor, stopped, and looked up at the number of the room.

the smell was unbearable by now and the hiss deafening. he placed his hand on the doorknob and turned it, then he pushed the door open gently. there… he saw nothing. the janitor walked slowly to the centre of the dully-lit, bare room. suddenly, he heard a tsss sound coming from behind him, louder than he had ever heard it, and the repugnant odor of strong lavender.
